Gymnasts announce ticket offer

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) offer ticket holders free travel to Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships

AcrobaticGymnastics02.jpgBuchanan Street shoppers did a double take on Wednesday 24 September as gymnasts from Glasgow School of Sport performed jaw-dropping acrobatics outside the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) Subway station.

The one-off performance was to celebrate the forthcoming 21st Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships on 3 – 12 October.

Glasgow will be the envy of the gymnastics world as it plays host to the largest gathering of elite gymnastics since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With 500 athletes taking part, it promises to be an electric atmosphere and non-stop, spectacular aerial acrobatic action for all the family.

As an added bonus, event ticket holders will receive a voucher to redeem at any SPT subway station, offering free travel for each day they attend the Championships at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall Arena.

Councillor Archie Graham, executive member for Culture and Sport said: "Glasgow is now set to host this fantastic World Championship event. It was the first major sporting event awarded to the city after we won the right to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. With tickets starting at just £3, it gives families an all-round package to enjoy a day out without worrying about the cost."

Alistair Watson, Chair SPT said: “Our aim is to encourage more people to use public transport. By offering free Subway travel to the event we hope to make it an affordable and great day out for everyone.”
