Seven days to go

Glasgow somersaults into action as countdown to Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships begins

AcrobaticGymnastics05.jpgThere are only seven days to wait until the City of Glasgow becomes the capital of the gymnastics world.

From 3-12 October, and less than 12 months after winning the bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, over 500 athletes from 31 countries will converge on Glasgow to contest the 21st Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships and the 5th Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Championships.

As an added bonus, event ticket holders will receive a voucher to redeem at any SPT subway station, offering free travel for each day they attend the Championships at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall Arena.

From 3-5 October, the World Age-Group Championships, with participants aged between 11 and 19 will spring into action.  From 10-12 October it will be the turn of the senior men and women to wow the crowds and impress the judges with eye-catching, dynamic routines performed to music.

Councillor Archie Graham, Executive Member for Culture and Sport said: “These World Championships are going to be a wonderful spectacle for the city and for Scotland. For three weekends in October some of the greatest gymnasts in the world will be visiting Glasgow to compete for top honours. It's a unique opportunity for people to still get tickets to world class events in our city and enjoy seeing athletes compete at the highest levels.”

The Great Britain team is among the competitors going for gold but competition will be fierce with the reigning men’s pairs world champions from Ukraine and the women’s pairs champions from Belarus among their rivals in competition.

With prices starting from just £3, the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships promise to be the hottest ticket in town.
