Tickets sell out for final day

Organisers of the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow have confirmed that all 2,500 tickets for the senior final this Sunday (12 October) are already sold out.

Such is the demand for tickets that in addition to this Sunday’s sell-out, over 60% of seats for the senior qualifiers on Friday and Saturday (October 10 and 11) have also already been snapped up.

Culture and Sport Glasgow is hosting the world’s largest acrobatic gymnastic competition in conjunction with the Federation Internationale Gymnastique (FIG) and British Gymnastics. It is the first time in eleven years that a UK city has hosted the World Championships.

Athletes from as far afield as Russia, Australia and South Africa are competing with British athletes, including Scottish hopeful Sarah Cameron from Kilmarnock, for a total of 18 gold medals.

A spokesperson for Culture and Sport Glasgow commented:

“It’s fantastic to see gymnastic fans and families from across Scotland respond so enthusiastically to the opportunity to watch the world’s best age-group and senior acrobatic gymnasts in action at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow."

In a unique partnership agreement with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, event organisers also announced that members of the public who purchase a ticket for any of the six days of competition (October 3-5 and 10-12) will receive one free return ticket on the Glasgow underground to whisk them to the Kelvin Hall.

On Monday 6 October, in a unique Come and Try session, Glasgow  gave the city’s next generation of potential gymnastic stars the chance to tumble and cartwheel with the best.  Over 300 primary aged pupils from six schools in the south-side of the city descended on the Kelvin Hall for a ‘Come and Try’ session co-ordinated by Culture and Sport Glasgow’s gymnastic development team.
