3x1 undertook the PR campaign for the Glasgow & Edinburgh Family Fun Weekend on 3/4 February 2007 – a tourism initiative developed by VisitScotland and First ScotRail on behalf of the Glasgow-Edinburgh Collaboration Project.
The weekend offered families First ScotRail’s special Family Funday weekend tickets travelling between the cities. This entitled them to free transport on the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing buses and free entry to 30 visitor attractions.
First ScotRail confirmed a 122 per cent increase on the previous year with more than 1,900 Family Funday tickets purchased and 3,150 additional family passengers travelled between the cities on the campaign weekend compared to the previous year.
Families were asked to complete a survey questionnaire during their train journey and 55 per cent found out about the weekend through newspapers, underlining PR’s contribution to the success of the weekend.
