Tristan scoops gold in Half Marathon competition

11-year-old Tristan from Skeabost Bridge is celebrating after he was named winner of The Scottish Salmon Company’s (SSC) t-shirt design competition, which saw runners wearing his design at this year’s Scottish Salmon Company Isle of Skye Half Marathon.

Pupils from Macdiarmid Primary School were given the task of designing a t-shirt to be worn by SSC runners taking part in last week’s race. Each entry was asked to incorporate key elements of race sponsor SSC’s business: pride, passion, provenance and, of course, the Isle of Skye.

With nearly 20 entries, the task of choosing a winner was not easy for the SSC judges. Tristan was selected as winner, and Harry and Violet were awarded second and third place respectively.  Tristan was awarded a gift voucher from Inside Out, a local outdoor clothing and equipment store, as well as some Scottish salmon. Tristan’s design was printed on to the exclusive t-shirts which were worn by the SSC team of runners at the Half Marathon.

Craig Anderson, Chief Executive of The Scottish Salmon Company, said: “We received some wonderful entries from the children of Macdiarmid Primary School, we must commend them on their hard work. Well done to Tristan, whose design brought our values of pride, passion and provenance to life in a very creative and eye-catching way.

“We were proud to sponsor this year’s SSC Isle of Skye Half Marathon. The pride, passion and dedication the committee and all the volunteers have is amazing to see and is what makes this such a special event for Portree and the Isle of Skye. This year’s event was the best yet, and it was great to see our SSC team of runners wearing Tristan’s t-shirts.”

Mrs Philippa Nicolson, Head Teacher at Macdiarmid Primary School, said: “Our pupils really enjoyed taking part in The Scottish Salmon Company competition and produced some excellent designs. The children did a great job incorporating the company’s values, our island and salmon motifs into their artwork.

“It was really exciting to see Tristan’s design during the race, he was very pleased to see the runners wearing their t-shirts with his artwork.”
